There's a video up on the Leica site in which I talk about going on my trip to Tibet. Big thanks to Conor for shooting it — in a Tibetan restaurant in Paris, no less — and editing out all the bits where I giggle and say things like: "Er, I don't think I've ever been further east than Streatham."
Oh, hang on, we left that bit in. But it is definitely NOT true. Obviously, Paris is much further east than Streatham.

Ummm, Annie, you know that when you click on that link and then click on your video it just brings up a message saying "This is a private video. Do you have permission to view this video?"
ReplyDeleteAnd, quite frankly, I'm confused as to whether I have permission or not. Is there anything in it I shouldn't see?
Umm... it's not saying private video over here. I will check it out.
ReplyDeleteYour knitted hat is charming, as is your acccent. Would you mind reading the news instead of those self-important declaimers they usually have? And you're only 30! With your instinctive wisdom and your sweet grace, I was thinking you were at least 31.
ReplyDeleteYou are totally my favourite commenter.
ReplyDeleteUntil I watched that vid I hadn't realized how much I missed your pleasant, soft voice.
ReplyDeleteYou are totally my second favourite commenter.
ReplyDeleteI tried the video but it just went blank and nothing happened. I'm sure it's like totally the best video ever though.
ReplyDeleteParis is a lot farther than Streatham. Just past Croydon in fact.
I'm a bit reluctant about the whole video thing so I haven't looked at it yet. In the meantime, I am wondering if that bit of Belgium you visited might have been as easterly as Paris?
ReplyDeleteYou have a beautiful mellow voice. And you are obviously very much in love with the man behind the camera! :)
ReplyDeleteSounds like a fantastic trip, looking forward to your travelogue...I really enjoyed your posts from the States...
Ah, the video worked this time. You're such a charming and engaging person, Annie. I do enjoy knowing you, even if it's only at a distance.
ReplyDeleteFunny, Blogger deleted my URL. Naughty naughty Blogger.
ReplyDeleteJust to add to the discussion, the video worked fine for me.
ReplyDeleteYou sound more Welsh these days, but that might just be because I've been watching Torchwood lately.
"Rthhrrrrrrreeeeeese!"
They probably already told you this... but don't forget to bring a portable back-up system! You don't want to lose what's on the memory cards. And bring enough memory cards so you don't have to delete any, just in case you lose the back up.
ReplyDeleteAlso that point-it book is a GODSEND.. I used it to tell people in China that my toilet was bunged up. Also printing out what the Chinese characters are for certain places/things is useful.
I am trying to figure out what to say so that I may become the NEW #1 favorite commenter.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful opportunity and I am sure a terrific adventure awaits – I hope the culture shock isn’t too much, though you do seem to be well prepared for it all :)
ReplyDeleteI'm building myself up for a trip away, so much so I’m off the tea. Even though I’ve a look of slight pain on my face even when I'm sleeping (and haven’t heard as much as a “ah, thats a shame”) I know it’ll be worth it :)
BP: Where are you heading to?
ReplyDeleteOh yes, that Point-It book, I keep meaning to get one and forgetting. I think I better start making a list.
Thanks for the lovely comments. You're all favourites, you know that, right.
I'm not responsible for my photographs. Photography is not documentary, but intuition, a poetic experience. It's drowning yourself, dissolving yourself, and then sniff, sniff, sniff – being sensitive to coincidence. You can't go looking for it; you can't want it, or you want get it. First you must lose your self. Then it happens. - Henri Cartier-Bresson
ReplyDeleteyour video reminded me of fred frith in 'step across the border.' your experience, though not without discomfort, will be divine and wonderful.
