The Gold-Paved Streets of York
Making my fortune on the gold-paved streets of York might prove to be a little trickier than it was in Belgium.
"You do realise," says Cathy, cautiously. "That to get a busking permit from the council here you have to actually audition for them?"
"Yes, yes I'm aware of that," I say, even though I wasn't. In Ghent I just had to pay up 25 quid and fill in a form; nobody asked me to prove myself.
"It's okay," I reassure her. "I have an audition set that's going to blow them away. It's going to be just like the X-Factor."
A shadow of doubt clouds Cathy's usually optimistic face. I'm not sure if she is dubious about my handful of slightly wobbly guitar-pieces 'blowing' anyone 'away' or if it's just that she can't imagine the offices of York Town Council being anything at all 'like the X-Factor'.

Yeah, I have my theory test tomorrow. Haven't actually studied for it yet but am just about to open up the DVLA website I swear.
Tell the lovely Lisa to introduce herself if she sees me and I will play her a request! As long as it is 'Man on the Moon' then we're laughing.
And I am totally going to learn to play "York, York" by Frank Sinatra. As soon as I've studied for my theory test.
I passed the *Hazard Perception* part of the test by clicking more than three but less than 5 times. It's a doddle.
Ic: So four times then?
Luckily I passed my driving test before the hazard test were introduced. But I was one of the first few to do the theory test and it was great because it meant so 'spot questions' during your actual test.

Cathy has also just mentioned 'hazard perception test' to me too. Um. I didn't have to do that in Ireland.
EW, yes my driving instructor was very specific about it being 'More than 3 but less than 5', when I also said 'What 4 then?' he said ' As long as it's more than 3 and less than 5' hahaha he was a card.
you're laughing as long as you don't get the audition and the theory test confused. Many of my new guitar students have seen your guitar video and were dead impressed!
Can I come for a lesson next time I'm in Galway? I want to learn some bluegrassy folky stuff. A guitar lesson, I mean, not a driving one. Though that would also be useful.
Um, my theory test is in four hours and I still haven't even seen a 'hazard perception test'. Eep.
No prob. bluegrass driving is too scary anyway.
