Must start using a faster shutter speed

I took 324 pictures of my nieces and nephews in Galway this week and nearly every single one of them is blurry.

  4. I tend to agree with Red - although the suggestion that you get yourself some slower nieces and nephews is certainly worthy of serious consideration. But yes, this is a really pleasing and gorgeous picture and so you should maybe just stay well away from faster shutter speeds, Ms Rhiannon, or you run the risk of ruining everything. Everything.

Kind regards and Happy Easter cetra cetra....

  5. How do we know the blurry pics aren't a distinct improvement on reality?

  6. Like a teddy :) Love it. As the nieces and nephews grow up, they will realise you are an artist.

  7. Often have a similar problem snapping our babies. Even at one year old they move so quickly you either need plenty of light for a good shutter speed, or have to use a ridiculously high ISO.

  8. Cheers guys. Hey TPE, happy easter to you too.

This was taken with a pretty high ISO, at 1600, which meant the shot came out really orange so I desaturated it in Photoshop afterwards. I find I'm always shooting with a high ISO indoors because I refuse to use a flash.

The orange thing is a characteristic of the Pentax k100 in poor lighting, so I hear, but apart from that it's the perfect camera, I reckon. For wannabes like me anyway.

You could also try a larger aperature, i.e. use a fixed focal length lens.

  10. Right, I remember now — and I'm looking forward to experimenting with different lenses. So if I use a wide-angle lens then I can get away with a much larger aperture? I think I left all my lenses at your house at Christmas though. (I'm presuming you're the Einar I think you are.)
