Eavan and Mary's Costume Party

Here are the photos from Eavan and Mary's costume party a couple of weeks ago. I could have posted them straight away, but because I'm of the generation of point-n-click digital 'photographers' who reckon lighting can be fixed in Photoshop, I had some work to do to them first. And anyway, whenever I post un-photoshopped pictures on the internet I tend to break out into a rash and turn into a pumpkin.

As for the dressing up, I just gave into my dormant lesbian side again by tying a napkin round my neck and going as a cowboy, but some of the other costumes were significantly more ambitious. Like the pale Scottish man who lived out his dream of one day being B.A. Baracus, or the cute hostess who had decided to go as 'a building'. With pink hair. Bjarni was adorned with a bed sheet and a catalogue, thus becoming 'Argos the Greek God of Catalogue Shopping' and there were farmers and movie stars and 70's chicks just like you get at any other kind of party. My personal favourite, though, was 'Elvis and his Baby', which was confusing at first — Elvis had a baby? — until he broke into song.

Unfortunately, Marilyn Monroe and General Slut both denied me permission to post their photos on the internet, but clicky-click the link for more of the other costumes.

  1. Funny pics. I need to learn (with GIMP - the image editor for anyone who thinks otherwise) how to isolate subjects to make them look like their doing a photoshoot.

  2. I actually made everybody stand in front of a blank wall and shone a desk-lamp at them, rather than masking out the background in Photoshop. You can see in the top middle pic the bedroom door is in shot.

GIMP is apparently a very good photo-editing tool, according to Bjarni who is all for free software, but I've never used it myself. Call me ridick, but I just can't bring myself to use anything with a name like "Gimp".

    Download it here: http://www.gimp.org/

  3. Ha Ha... Really, I can't believe you made everyone pose in front of a blank wall. GIMP is a excellent image editing tool, which I have been using for a while, but I haven't got to the section on masking backgrounds yet.

As for the title of the app, I always make sure I clear my browsing history after searching for help/tips etc, I really don't want anyone thinking I have some strange fantasy that I live out on the web.

  4. Good effort from all the guests for the party - yay for that. And boo for Marilyn who didn't want to share...

  5. I sent her the pic just in case she changes her mind. She does look particularly lovely, so maybe she will. She is pointing a gun at Indiana Jones.

Yes, all the guests made a great effort, I was the most boring. Oh, and a guy who said he came as Fidel Castro, but really that was just the cap he always wears.

  6. Just love a good costume party. My friend recently went to a london tube stop station dressed as a crab wearing a crown. When I asked her what the hell tube stop that was she replied "Duh, King Crustation?"
