"People have approached us regularly to make a Simpsons movie. But each episode we do has enough story, character developments and one-liners to sustain an entire movie. I just don't see the point of taking a half-hour piece of work and stretching it out to 90 minutes."
Matt Groening, Teach Yourself Screenwriting, 2003
"I can't believe you're paying to watch something you could see on TV for free! If you ask me, everyone in this theater is a big sucker! Especially, you!"
Homer Simpson, The Simpsons Movie, 2007

You're funnier than the Simpsons Annie, when's your screen play going to get written? When did adults get so infantalised that it's cool to like a kid's cartoon? I'd rather look at these nice pictures of Iceland http://www.pbase.com/orvaratli/icelands_seaside
ReplyDeleteNot sure I'd call the Simpsons a kids' cartoon, exactly... in fairness though I did fall asleep halfway through, but it had some good one-liners.
ReplyDeleteWhen is my screenplay going to get written? While I'm at film school, I'm hoping, between essays. Hmm.
I've made myself appreciate the writing (mostly those famous one-liners) of the Simpsons TV show, but I can't make myself go to a movie theatre to watch even more of the same. And then to see Homer suddenly starring in fast food commercials. Ugh. Worse and worse.
ReplyDeleteDiscuss.
ReplyDeleteNiall and I were two of the suckers that Homer pointed his finger at. I have to say it had its moments. What do you think about Maggie's comment at the very end during the credits, if you stayed that long?
ReplyDeleteAlso I don't see anything wrong with adults enjoying cartoons (for kids or more grown-up material alike) and I don't think it has anything to do with being cool. If you like to laugh and something makes you laugh, that's great. If not, boo hoo.
Everyone I know who's seen it has said it's so not worth it.
ReplyDeleteThat's my 5c worth.
Hearing Maggie's first word in the titles was fun, but the line right at the very END of the titles was the highlight of the film for me. And there are a lot of titles to get through to wait and hear it, what with it being an animated feature film and all.
ReplyDeleteBut like I said, I was asleep for most of it so I dunno. I think I just associate the Simpsons with dozing off, it's just what you do when you get home from work.
Doh! These comments need a spoiler alert.... I haven't seen it yet.
ReplyDeleteOh noes, I took a 5 year old to see this film, so I didn't see the credits.
ReplyDeleteWhat's the bit I missed at the very end please?
Can't say! Until anyone and everyone, who reads Annie's posts and haven't seen the movie but plans to see it, have seen it. Sowwy *lips sealed*
ReplyDeleteBtw, what did the 5 year old think?
You'll just have to go back and see it again mate. Sorry.
ReplyDeleteSmart attack! Alternatively, you can just go see another movie you actually want to and then sneak in the cinema where they show Simpsons, catch the end of it.
