www.annierhiannon.com

In my quest to take over the world, I've bought myself a "domain name" to put my design portfolio on. I'm so excited about this that I'm tempted to introduce myself as Annie Rhiannon Dot Com at parties — but Bjarni tells me that's, like, so 1998, and how often do I go to parties anyway?

Fair enough, but at least all this hermitting has paid off, as I now have a fully-functioning website to show for it. At least, I think it's fully functioning. If something looks a bit odd in your browser, let me know.

Of course I owe a great big thank you to Bjarni for his help with it all, as he not only wrote the programme that I made it in, but also very patiently taught me how to write the code to keep it updated myself — "in case we ever split up".

I am touched and truly thankful.

  1. It's not working for me. I can see the bottom half of a couple of pictures, and i have a sideways scroll bar.

However, I am using IE and nobody important does that anymore.

  2. That soudns like the WORST thing that could have happened. A sideways scroll bar?!

Is it IE for the Mac or PC?

  3. pc. portfolio link seems fine, though.

  4. What you need is to buy some merchandise to advertise your domain name. Free t-shirts and mugs for your readers wouldn't be a bad start.

If you have a little bit of cash you could buy a country and then rename it, I don't think that has been done before. Imagine it on the ten o'clock news - "There has been intense fighting in annierhiannon dot com today" That might get you a little more traffic.

(By the way it all looks to be working fine on my XP/firefox machine) machine)

  5. There's a "Invalid Project ID" tag at the bottom of all the Work pages where your stat counter should be. I'm in Firefox.

  6. I think I fixored the front page, thanks to this handy tool: http://ipinfo.info/netrenderer/index.php

Neither Annie nor I have PCs, so the whole IE experience is something we're blissfully unaware of. ;-)

We can take a look at whatever other issues people point out this evening.

  7. I fixed the "Invalid Project ID" bit. Eep, I'm so geeky.

  8. Nice page. Works fine for me (Firefox).

    Here's a question for you:
How come all over Iceland, apparently in every restaurant or something, toasted bagel is translated into English as "roasted beagle." A Canadian woman in New Scientist magazine wants to know.

  9. Ooh, love has gone all high tech. Thweet.

  10. VERY impressive. Big congrats. Hm. I could sure use a BF like Bjarni. To do the web design for me, I mean.

And he's right about that "so 1998". Sadly, many people in Niceland have yet to catch on - in fact this was my precise thought in Bónus today while staring at a tub of skyr.is.

  11. I've only seen it written as "roasted beagle" once, and that was in ex-hip bar 22, but it was funny enough to make me thik of it every time I've seen a bagel since.

Embarrasingly, it was an ex-bf of mine who designed that menu. He also listed "chips" as "Fence Fries".

  12. I have a *cough* PC *cough*. And your page worked just fine. It's great. "Why do men have nipples?" I had to click on it. I enjoyed reading the descriptions that accompanied the artwork you have created / co-created. Thank you for sharing Annie.

  13. The website looks great! I'm so impressed with Bjarni... and you, too, of course, techno-Annie.

I have a PC (gasp) and Firefox.

  14. Small Boo bought me the domain name www.culturalsnow.co.uk, which, one day, I will do something with.

But since it's on her credit card, she could whip it away from under me if things go a bit horrid.

  15. Love your blog. My hubby is Welsh.

  16. It looks fantastic and it makes you sound rather fabulous - which you are. Brilliant.

  17. I am suitably impressed.

Everything worked just fine for me (I use a small silvery box, and sometimes it flashes a light at me, although the Spouse Sparrow assures me that it is not a Cylon).

  18. Very nicely done.

And I can report no problems on a PC using Opera.

  19. Eep, thanks for all the encouragement. I'm glad it's all working okay now.

Of course the whole thing is a shameless act of self-propmotion, but I'm going to send it out to some design agencies today, see if I can get a bit more freelance work. I like working for the ad agency in Iceland, but working from home isn't doing anything for my social life and it'd be good just to meet with some agencies and see what they're up to.

  20. Looks good, but then Im computer illiterate when it comes to the technical side. I tried to put one of those visitor counter things on and had to go and have a lie down. The attempt was a complete failure. My tiny brain just doesnt seem to be able to grasp the whole code thing. *Makes note to warn Ruf he may be ditched if he cant become a computer geek*

A little slow to load (pc/ie) but that might be my isp.

  22. congrats Annie- this is sure to rev up your social life :p
    Looks very cool to me

  23. This little incident finally moved me to firefox. Thanks for that. And the site rocks.

  24. Thanks all!

It is a bit slow to load, I know, it's an image-heavy site and my host is in Iceland. Though I'm not sure that has anything to do with it. I'll look into it.

Just found you blonk and have to say I love the fact that you call it a blonk! The new site looks great too.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I like the new look Annie! How do you find a man who knows how to do these things? My chap can just about answer a mobile phone, although sending texts is beyond him. He does have other uses, though, in case you think I'm complaining!

  29. Nice work, Annie.

Are you going to move the blonkspot thing over as well?

  30. The site looks great. I love its simplicity and your trademark changing circle links. They're great. And your pictures are stunning.

  31. In case we ever split up.. lol! Such a sweet boy. :)

  32. It's lovely and I especially like the Chews Me thing ... made me chuckle out loud!

  33. What a great site. You are a fab designer. I am not worthy to touch your blog!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I'm not moving the blonkspot thing over, just leaving it where it is. I don't really see the point.... though perhaps it just makes it seem more pro? I dunno, it's just a blog.

Mae tudalen Malcolm Price yn wych. Dwi'n hoffi'r llun o'r ymennydd.

And thanks for the compliments, folks.

Like the website. Just a nerdy technicality to point out. The stuff for the premiership on Icelandic TV shouldn't really feature a picture of Thierry Henry as he now plays in the Spanish League. Dull I know but....

    ReplyDelete
  36. Thank you.

That's not the Premiership though (I'm still working on that stuff in time for August), that's an ad from the last Champions League. It's a great pic so I decided to keep it in — I can't keep updating stuff every time a footballer changes teams, we just have to see it as a part of history.

Oh, I like that. "A part of history..."
