There are three things you must achieve in life before you can be classified as a proper grown-up:
1. Having an orgasm without faking it
If you're male, you may have achieved this at a considerably earlier age than most women. If so, skip to point number two. If you're female, I'm talking about with another person, not when you're by yourself.
2. Taking down your posters and putting up prints
What's the difference between a "poster" and a "print", anyway? Well, I'd say roughly about £9.99.
3. Buying your own place
I'm going to look at an apartment tonight, to buy. Which feels quite scary. But it's so cute; the top floor of a red wooden house. It seems quite cheap too, compared to other places. This, apparently, is because of its "crap location". But it's the location that appeals most to me, just off the main street, downtown. It also has two bedrooms for the price of one, so I can rent one out. See some pictures here.
Oh, and by the way, when I have achieved two of the items on this list, I will let you know.

Nice!
ReplyDeleteThe washing machine's the coolest thing, defo worth getting the apartment for.
Your list is spot on!
ReplyDeleteThe little red house is lovely and it's a sweet little flat! I hope you get it (fingers crossed)
Hey! I know that place! A friend of mine used to live there.
ReplyDeleteI sure hope they fixed the hallway and the back, uh, alley(?) by now. Judging by the fact that the appartment still has the same curtains I guess not.
The main problem with this appartment is that living there is like renting a room at Prikið.
I seem to recall the inhabitants having had some some resentment toward Prikið. Seeing as a large portion of the male clientelle used the front of the house as a toilette.
The irony is that, despite this uncomfortable proximility to the bar, it's not close enough to steal their wireless internet.
Oh no!
ReplyDeleteJust as I suspected I am not a proper grown-up!
Prikið just so happens to be my favourite bar downtown. Everybody keeps warning me about the noise, but I lived on Laugavegur before and it was fine.
ReplyDeleteNo they have NOT fixed the hallway OR the "garden", and the roof seems to be caving slightly. But I don't care, I could hardly sleep last night thinking about what colour I'm going to paint my "studio" and where I'm going to put my plants.
From my extensive attempts at buying houses I can tell you the three most important things (in this order) are:
ReplyDelete1) Price (ie can I afford it?)
2) Location
3) The structure itself.
99 percent of things wrong with houses can be fixed. But you can never change the price you paid or the location. I would also add that, in Ireland at least, a good question to ask yourself is: 'Would I be happy living here forever/able to rent it easily if the market crashes and/or no one ever wants to buy it.
A very grown up comment don't you think?
It is really, really cheap, so yes, I can afford it. I LOVE the location, I don't think you can be ANY more central. Which is why it's so cheap because that doesn't appeal to most people. So maybe I wouldn't be able to sell it easily again, no.
ReplyDeleteAs for the structure, I don't know. It's kind of old. I knocked on the wall a bit, just for effect more than anything. Didn't have a clue what I was looking for.
Mary and Bruce will be here next week, I'll ask them what they think.
My brother used to live in this house and it´s nice. Who cares about the noice, when the location is so spot on?
ReplyDeleteJust make sure that it´s structurally sound and that there is nothing wrong with it. Get somebody to go with you.
Otherwise, good luck and happy painting :)
Takk! I'm going to go and see it with a surveyor before I make an offer.
ReplyDeleteIt think it's lovely. I know that street and that bar. I love it there. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteYou are completely correct. Prints, posters. Stupid.
ReplyDeleteI started thinking about wall colours and where I'd put my plants too.
ReplyDeleteNot a crappy location at all. Nice house.
