1976 – The Golden Year of Porn

Bjarni turned 30 on Saturday. This didn't phase me at all as, bizarrely, he'd already told me he was 30 when I met him 5 months ago. He had a party at his place to celebrate; a theme of 1976.

I was responsible for the punch. Now, I may be an extremely responsible person but I do not want to be responsible for any post-party fall-out. So while I am tempted to write up a really gossipy report (who was fingering who in the kitchen etc), I fear for my Icelandic friends. Jobs would be lost; marriages would fall apart; the Sheriff would be called out.

Great stuff.

  1. How was the 1976 theme adhered to? Did everyone dress like porn stars or is the title in reference to the illicit antics going on in the kitchen?

  2. Bjarni dressed like the King of Porn, in aviators, side-burns, and a leopard print shirt. There were a lot of wigs. And arm-warmers. And I seem to remember some bell-bottoms (Ingó?). And a man walking around with a chess board, somewhat bizarrely.

I decided to ignore the theme completely as I wanted to wear my new cowboy boots. Did they have cowboys in the 70s? Oh yeah, of course they did. I've seen Brokeback Mountain.

  3. The theme was just the year, not necessarily porn. Very many people
came dressed as "a friend of someone
born in 1976", which was grudgingly
    accepted as a valid costume.

  4. Yeah but Think 70s: Think Porn.

Except for that guy who had the chess set with him. Who was he supposed to be? He did tell me but I forget.

  5. I believe he was a female Russian chess champion who was born in 1976.
